ईमानदार लकड़हारा और जलदेवी की मनोहर कहानी

एक गांव में एक लकड़हारा रहता था | वह बहुत ही गरीब था लेकिन लकड़हारा बहुत ईमानदार था | लकड़हारा सुबह प्रतिदिन लकड़ी काटने जाता था और शाम को घर आ जाता था | लकड़ी काट के वो अपना गुजर – बसर करता था | एक दिन लकड़हारा लकड़ी काट रहा था की अचानक उसका कुल्हाड़ी नदी में गिर गया | ये देख कर के लकड़हारा बहुत रोने लगा और बोलने लगा की अब वो लकड़ी कैसे काटेगा और लकड़ी नहीं कटेगा तो उसके घर का गुजारा कैसे होगा | क्योकि लकड़हारा बहुत गरीब था और उसके पास दूसरी कुल्हाड़ी नहीं थी और ना ही उसके पास उतने पैसे थे की वो दूसरी कुल्हाड़ी खरीद सके | अब लकड़हारा नदी के किनारे बैठ के रोने लगा और सोचने लगा की अब वो बिना कुल्हाड़ी के लकड़ी कैसे काटेगा |

लकड़हारा ये सोच ही रहा था की तभी नदी से जलदेवी प्रकट हो गई और लकड़हारा से पूछने लगी की तुम क्यो रो रहे हो क्या हुआ ? लकड़हारा रोते हुए बोलने लगा की जलदेवी मैं लकड़ी काट रहा था अचानक मेरा कुल्हाड़ी नदी में गिर गया अब मैं लकड़ी कैसे काटूंगा |

ये सुन के जलदेवी बोली मैं तुम्हारा कुल्हाड़ी लौटा दूंगी | जलदेवी नदी में जा के वापस आयी और हाथ में एक सोने का कुल्हाड़ी ले के लकड़हारे से बोली ये है तुम्हारा कुल्हाड़ी ? लकड़हारा ने कुल्हाड़ी देख के बोला नहीं ये मेरा कुल्हाड़ी नहीं हैं | जलदेवी लकड़हारे से बोली तुम ध्यान से देखो ये तुम्हारी कुल्हाड़ी हैं | लेकिन लकड़हारा अपने बात पर कायम था उसने जलदेवी से बोला नहीं जलदेवी ये मेरी कुल्हाड़ी नहीं हैं | फिर से जलदेवी नदी में गई और फिर हाथ में एक चांदी का कुल्हाड़ी ले के बोली ये है तुम्हारा कुल्हाड़ी ? लकड़हारे ने चांदी के कुल्हाड़ी को देखा और बोला नहीं ये मेरा कुल्हाड़ी नहीं हैं | फिर से जलदेवी नदी में गई और लकड़हाड़े का लोहे का कुल्हाड़ी ले की बोली ये है तुम्हारा कुल्हाड़ी ? ये देख के लकड़हारा खुश हो गया और बोला हाँ जलदेवी ये हैं मेरा कुल्हाड़ी | ये सुन के जलदेवी बहुत प्रसन्न हो गई | लकड़हारे की ईमानदारी देख के जलदेवी बहुत खुश हो गई | जलदेवी ने लकड़हारे को सोने और चांदी के दोनों कुल्हाड़ी दे के बोली मैं तुम्हारी ईमानदारी से बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ इसलिए तुम ये दोनों कुल्हाड़ी भी रख लो | लकड़हारा पहले तो मना करने लगा कुल्हाड़ी लेने से लेकिन जलदेवी के आग्रह पर उसने दोनों कुल्हाड़ी जलदेवी से ले लिया | लकड़हारा अब बहुत खुश हो गया और जलदेवी को बहुत धन्यवाद दिया |

The beautiful story of the honest woodcutter and the water goddess

There lived a woodcutter in a village. He was very poor but the woodcutter was very honest. The woodcutter used to go to cut wood every morning and return home in the evening. He used to earn his livelihood by cutting wood. One day the woodcutter was cutting wood and suddenly his axe fell in the river. Seeing this the woodcutter started crying a lot and started saying that how will he cut wood now and if he does not cut wood then how will he run his house. Because the woodcutter was very poor and he did not have another axe and neither did he have enough money to buy another axe. Now the woodcutter sat on the bank of the river and started crying and started thinking that how will he cut wood now without an axe.

The woodcutter was thinking this when suddenly Jaldevi appeared from the river and started asking the woodcutter that why are you crying, what happened? The woodcutter started crying and said that Jaldevi I was cutting wood, suddenly my axe fell in the river, now how will I cut wood.

Hearing this Jaldevi said I will return your axe. Jaldevi went to the river and came back and said to the woodcutter with a golden axe in her hand, is this your axe? The woodcutter looked at the axe and said, no this is not my axe. Jaldevi said to the woodcutter, look carefully, this is your axe. But the woodcutter was firm on his words and said to Jaldevi, no Jaldevi this is not my axe. Jaldevi again went to the river and again took a silver axe in her hand and said, is this your axe? The woodcutter looked at the silver axe and said, no this is not my axe. Jaldevi again went to the river and took the iron axe of the woodcutter and said, is this your axe? The woodcutter became happy to see this and said, yes Jaldevi this is my axe. Jaldevi became very happy to hear this. Jaldevi became very happy to see the honesty of the woodcutter. Jaldevi gave both the golden and silver axes to the woodcutter and said, I am very happy with your honesty, so you can keep both these axes too. At first the woodcutter refused to take the axes but on Jaldevi’s insistence he took both the axes from her. The woodcutter was now very happy and thanked Jaldevi a lot.
