एक समय की बात है, सारस और लोमड़ी घनिष्ठ मित्र थे। लोमड़ी बहुत चतुर थी लेकिन सारस एक साधारण जानवर था। एक दिन लोमड़ी ने सारस को भोजन के लिए आमंत्रित किया।

सारस अपने मित्र लोमड़ी के घर आया। लोमड़ी ने सूप बनाया था. उसने सारस के लिए प्लेट में सूप परोसा। लोमड़ी ने अपनी जीभ से चाटकर सूप का आनंद लिया, लेकिन सारस केवल उसकी चोंच के अगले हिस्से को ही गीला कर सका। सारस को भूखे पेट ही वापस जाना पड़ा.

लोमड़ी ने कहा, “माफ करो मित्र, क्या आपको सूप पसंद नहीं आया?” सारस ने कहा, “माफी मत मांगो, ऐसी कोई बात नहीं है। तुम कल दोपहर के भोजन के लिए मेरे घर आओ।”

सारस ने लोमड़ी को सबक सिखाने की सोची। अगले दिन लोमड़ी सारस के घर भोजन के लिए गयी। सारस ने सूप भी बनाया। उन्होंने सूप को एक लंबी सुराही वाली गर्दन वाले बर्तन में परोसा। लोमड़ी का मुंह अंदर नहीं जा सका और वह सूप का किसी भी तरह से स्वाद नहीं ले पाई और भूखी ही रह गई. सारस ने आराम से सूप पी लिया। लोमड़ी को उसके कर्मों का फल मिल गया था। लोमड़ी को अपने किये का अहसास हो गया था |

Once upon a time, the stork and the fox were close friends. The fox was very clever but the stork was an ordinary animal. One day the fox invited the stork for food.

The stork came to his friend the fox’s house. The fox had made soup. He served soup in a plate for the crane. The fox enjoyed the soup by licking it with his tongue, but the stork could only wet the tip of his beak. The stork had to go back hungry.

The fox said, “Sorry friend, don’t you like the soup?” The stork said, “Don’t apologize, it’s no such thing. You come to my house for lunch tomorrow.”

The crane thought of teaching the fox a lesson. The next day the fox went to the stork’s house for food. The stork also made soup. They served the soup in a pot with a long neck. The fox’s mouth could not enter inside and it could not taste the soup in any way and remained hungry. The stork drank the soup comfortably. The fox had got the fruits of his deeds. The fox realized what he had done.
